S2D01 is the inner space translated into sound. Born in Florence, the music project of Simone Cappelli blends ambient, downtempo, and experimental electronic into emotionally rich soundscapes.
S2D01 stands for “Studio1” and is a tribute to Clement “Coxsone” Dodd, founder of the legendary Studio1 label, one of Jamaica’s most influential recording studios.
Simone Cappelli is an Italian musician, sound designer, and audio technologist with over four decades of experience at the intersection of music, technology, and experimentation. From early analog instruments and radio broadcasting to electronic composition, spatial audio, and generative sound systems, his work bridges handcrafted sound with contemporary digital and AI-assisted processes.
He is the founder of S2D01, a full-time sonic research project focused on ambient, experimental, and generative audio. Through evolving textures, deep atmospheres, and immersive soundscapes, S2D01 explores sound as a continuously transforming space for deep listening and emotional exploration.
Today, Simone’s work ranges from music production and sound design to generative audio software and AI-assisted workflows, creating ever-changing sonic environments where technology and human sensitivity converge.
